What the 25mm detection means for your guarding zone
The F3SJ-A0860P25 is a safety light curtain from Omron's F3SJ-A series, rated for hand protection with a 25mm detection capability. That 25mm figure is the minimum object size it catches — anything smaller passes through undetected, so this is sized for finger and hand access, not whole-body or torso detection. The 20mm beam pitch and 43 beams give a protective height of 860mm, covering a typical reach-in zone on a machine guard. Operating range runs from 0.2m out to 9.0m. That means the emitter and receiver can be up to nine metres apart, which covers a wide machine opening, but the minimum 0.2m gap means you cannot push them right up against each other for a short guard — the optics need that two-hundred-millimetre window to lock the sync signal.
Built for the factory floor — IP65 and blanking
IP65 rating means the housing is dust-tight and handles water jets from any direction — think washdown on a packaging line or coolant mist around a machining centre. Not submersible, but it survives the spray-down that ends a shift. Temperature range of -10°C to 55°C covers unheated warehouses and hot production bays; no special cooling needed. Blanking and muting functions are built in. Blanking lets the curtain ignore a fixed obstruction — a conveyor frame or a part fixture that sits inside the guarded area — without disabling the rest of the beams. Muting lets the curtain temporarily override itself when a pallet or workpiece passes through, so the machine does not stop on every material feed. Both are configured through the controller, not hard-wired.
