Motor starting duty at 50 A — what the AC-3 rating delivers
The J7KN50230 is a 3-pole contactor rated for 50 A in AC-3 duty, which means it handles the inrush of a 30 HP motor at 400/480 V without welding the main contacts on each start. That 50 A figure is the continuous current the main contacts carry once the motor is running; the actual making current on a NEMA Design B motor can hit 300 A for the first few cycles, and the contactor's AC-3 rating guarantees it survives those peaks through the full electrical life. The 22 kW switching power aligns with the 30 HP rating — a common size for pumps, fans, and light conveyors in European and North American panels. The 230 V AC coil pulls from the control transformer, so the panel designer needs to confirm the control circuit voltage matches before wiring the coil.
Panel fit: DIN rail or screw mount with screw terminals
Screw terminals on both the power and coil connections: torque to the manufacturer's spec (typically 2-3 Nm for the main circuit) for a gas-tight joint on stranded or solid copper wire up to 16 mm². The 3NO contact configuration means all three poles switch simultaneously — no auxiliary contacts built in. DC switching capability — limited but useful

Use it for DC brake coils, solenoid valves, or resistive heater contactors; for DC motor loads, derate further or use a dedicated DC contactor. The 690 V ceiling means the contactor can also serve 660 V mining or marine supplies where the line voltage sits above standard industrial 480 V.
