Heater Element Detector — 2 to 22 A Sensing, RS-485 CompoWay/F
The K8AC-H22CN-FLK is a dedicated heater element detector from Omron's K8AC-H series, designed to monitor current draw in resistive heater loads and signal a fault when the current drops below a set threshold — a common failure mode in heated nozzles, extruder bands, and immersion heaters. Its input range spans 2 to 22 A, covering the typical current draw of single- and three-phase heater circuits in injection molding, packaging, and industrial oven applications.
DIN Rail Integration and Panel Wiring
Mounts on standard DIN rail with spring-clamp terminals — no screw torque to verify, just strip the wire and push in. The spring termination saves time on panel builds and holds up better under vibration than screw terminals. Powered from 85 to 264 VAC, so it runs directly off the control transformer without a separate 24 VDC supply. The wide input range covers 100 V, 110 V, 200 V, and 240 V line voltages common in industrial panels globally.
Outputs and Communication
Two solid-state outputs provide the alarm and fault signals — one typically wired to the PLC digital input for the heater alarm, the other to a local beacon or the machine safety circuit. RS-485 communication using Omron's CompoWay/F protocol lets the PLC or SCADA poll the detector for the actual current reading, not just the alarm status. The 4-digit red LED display shows the live current value on the panel door. Control method is On/Off — the detector compares the sensed current against a setpoint and switches the outputs when the current falls below the threshold. No PID loop here; this is a dedicated watchdog for heater integrity.
