The XS618B1NBM12 is a shielded M18 cylindrical inductive proximity sensor from Telemecanique's XS6 series. It detects ferrous targets at a maximum distance of 8 mm with a minimum of 4 mm, outputting a NPN normally-closed signal on a 3-wire, 4-pin M12 connector. Runs on 12 to 48 VDC and carries a maximum load current of 200 mA. Built-in protections include overload, reverse polarity, and short circuit—so a wiring swap or a stalled load won't kill it. The nickel-plated brass body and IP67/IP69K rating mean it's ready for high-pressure washdown environments (food, petrochem) and still survives a hose-down. The shielded sensing face reduces the chance of false triggers from metal side-approaching the sensor body.
What the ratings mean
The 8 mm sensing distance is the rated maximum for a standard ferrous target (typically steel). The 4 mm minimum gives the true usable range when derated for non-ferrous metals or temperature variation—if your target is aluminum, expect about half that distance. Shielded construction means the sensor can be flush-mounted into metal without losing range. NPN output circuit (sinking) with a normally-closed contact form. If your PLC input card is sourcing (PNP) or you need a normally-open signal, this sensor doesn't swap without a change in wiring logic or an interface relay. IP69K is the higher rating for high-pressure washdown. IP67 covers dust and immersion.
Where it fits
Standard M18 threaded barrel, 74 mm overall height, direct connector (no pigtail). Fits any 18 mm mounting hole or bracket; the M12 connector means pre-wired cables with 4-pin female ends. Overall height of 74 mm may require clearance in shallow cavities—check the sensor's exposed length against your bracket's depth. Three-wire NPN configuration: brown (12-48 VDC), blue (0V), black (NPN NC output). The indicator light helps during commissioning—when the target is present, the LED switches state, confirming the sensing gap.
Compliance documentation
Carries CE, CSA, UL Listed, and RoHS compliance marks. The nickel-plated brass material and full marking mean a QC pack for traceability is straightforward—nameplate matches PO line-item.
