The OD2-P30W04A2 is a 2D laser displacement sensor from ifm electronic's OD Value series. It measures position and profile across a 26.0mm to 34.0mm installation distance, with a ±4mm measurement range, and outputs a PNP signal. That PNP output means it switches positive to the load — standard for PLC inputs in most panels; no pull-up resistor needed at the card. Power it from 12 to 24 VDC. The 12 V floor is tight — if your cabinet supply sags under motor start, a 24 V bus is safer. Termination is cable leads, so you're wiring direct to a terminal block or M12 connector in the field. IP67 rating means the housing and optics survive washdown and dust. It's not IP69K for hot-pressure cleaning, but for a dry or splash zone on a conveyor line or packaging machine, it'll hold up fine.
Chassis-mount form factor — bolts to a bracket or machine frame. The 26-34 mm standoff range gives you some play in the bracket design, but the sensor needs to be square to the target; any tilt throws the profile off. Operating temp is -10°C to 40°C, so keep it out of the oven or freezer aisle.
Peer comparison — OD2-P30W04U2 vs OD2-P30W04A2
The OD2-P30W04U2 is electrically and mechanically identical — same 12~24 VDC supply, same IP67 chassis-mount package, same 26-34 mm standoff, same cable leads. The difference is the output type: the -U2 variant uses a 4-20 mA analog output instead of the PNP discrete on the -A2. If your PLC analog input card has a free channel, the -U2 gives you continuous distance data; if you only need a go/no-go threshold, the -A2's PNP output is simpler to wire and troubleshoot.
