The SICK UM30-213112 is an ultrasonic proximity sensor from the UM30 series, delivering a PNP switching output over a sensing range of 200 mm to 1.3 m. That 1.3 m maximum reach suits it for level monitoring in medium-sized tanks, presence detection on conveyor lanes, or loop-control in web handling — applications where optical sensors get fouled by dust, steam, or transparent targets. The 8 Hz switching frequency means it refreshes the output every 125 ms, which is adequate for stationary object detection and slow-moving targets but not for high-speed counting or fast pick-and-place cycles. For those, a 12 Hz or higher sibling in the UM30 family would be the better call.
Rated IP65 and IP67, the sensor body and the M12 5-pin connector withstand hose-down cleaning and temporary submersion — standard for food-and-beverage or washdown zones. The brass nickel-plated housing with PBT sensing face handles the typical industrial mix of coolant mist, mild caustics, and vibration. Supply voltage is 9 V to 30 V, so it runs on common 24 VDC control power without a separate regulator.
