Trip class and release design — the failure-mode read
Class 10 trip curve means the overload relay must open within 10 seconds at 600 % of the set current — this is the standard for general-purpose motor starting where the acceleration time is under 10 seconds. The overload release is thermal bimetallic; the short-circuit trip is magnetic. That dual-release architecture means the bimetallic element handles sustained overcurrents while the magnetic coil catches bolted faults — no electronic board to fail in high-vibration or high-ambient panel environments.
Power ratings across voltage taps
Rated power is 250 W at 400 V, 370 W at 500 V, and 550 W at 690 V — the current draw scales inversely with voltage, so the same contactor and overload block handle the full range without re-sizing the thermal element. At 575/600 V the rating is 0.5 hp — a common figure for North American 600 V class panels where the motor nameplate is in horsepower. Operating frequency is 50... 60 Hz, so the starter is electrically identical for 50 Hz and 60 Hz line supplies — no de-rating needed when crossing between the two.
Mounting and panel integration
Fastening method is for snapping onto 60 mm busbar systems — the S0 frame clips directly onto the busbar without a separate mounting plate, saving a row of DIN rail in a dense panel. Mounting position is vertical only — the bimetallic overload relies on natural convection for the trip curve; horizontal mounting shifts the thermal profile and voids the Class 10 guarantee. Dimensions: 45 mm wide, 260 mm high, 155 mm deep. Clearance requirements: 30 mm upwards, 10 mm forwards, 10 mm downwards, 9 mm at the side, 0 mm backwards. The zero backward clearance means the back of the unit can sit flush against the panel backplate.
Environmental limits and wire sizing
Operating temperature range is -20... +60 °C — suitable for most indoor industrial enclosures without forced cooling; storage range is -50... +80 °C, transport range -55... +80 °C. Main contact wire range: stranded 1... 10 mm², or 2x (2.5... 6 mm²); AWG equivalent 2x (16... 12), 2x (14... 8). The dual-conductor entry allows looping through the starter without a separate terminal block for the line side. Degree of pollution 3 — the starter is rated for conductive pollution environments typical of industrial control panels where humidity, dust, or airborne contaminants are present.
