What this CPU brings to a panel
The Siemens 6ES7211-1AE40-0XB0 is the entry-level S7-1200 CPU, running at 24 V DC with a built-in OPC UA server that exposes tag data to any OPC UA client without an extra gateway. It handles a -40 to 70°C ambient range, so it works in unheated shelters, pump houses, or outdoor cabinets that stay above -40°C. The connection budget reserves 34 connections and allows up to 64 total – enough for a dozen HMI panels, a few OPC UA clients, and PROFIBUS or Ethernet I/O.
Supply voltage: 24 V DC with a minimum of L+ minus 4 V DC. That gives you headroom for a 5% drop on a long DC run before the CPU browns out. I2t rating of 0.5 A²·s – that's the let-through energy the internal protection can withstand during a short circuit on the 24 V supply. Useful if you're sizing an upstream breaker: it stays below the curve of a 2 A MCB. OPC UA serves data to clients directly; no additional hardware or license required. This saves a slot and a configuration step. PROFIBUS is supported but requires a CM 1243-5 (master) or CM 1242-5 (slave) module. The CPU itself has no PROFIBUS port.
