What this reversing starter delivers — and what it doesn't
The 3RA2220-1JH24-0AP0 is a SIRIUS reversing starter in Size S0 — meaning it packages two contactors and a thermal overload relay into one unit that swaps motor phase rotation for forward/reverse control. This is a hardwired reversing starter — no PROFIsafe or PROFINET IO onboard. It's designed for conventional control circuits where a PLC or relay logic toggles the direction contactors, not for networked safety drives. The supplied sub-assemblies are pre-integrated: a 3RT2024-2AP00 contactor, a 3RA2921-2AA00 link module, and an 8US1251-5NT11 busbar adapter. No separate ordering for these components.
Motor power ratings across common voltages
At 400 V, the rated motor power is 4 kW. At 460/480 V, it's 5 hp. At 575/600 V, it's 7.5 hp. For 200/208 V, it's 2 hp, and at 220/230 V, it's 3 hp. The rated current at 480 V is 7.6 A. This is standard for general-purpose motor starting; Class 10 is faster than Class 20, so it protects motors with shorter locked-rotor withstand times. Rated insulation voltage is 690 V, and the maximum AC-3 operating voltage is also 690 V — the starter's internal clearances handle 690 V line-to-line without derating.
Panel layout and busbar snap-on
The envelope is 260 mm high, 90 mm wide, 165 mm deep. Mounting position is vertical only. Fastening is by snapping onto 60 mm busbar systems — no DIN rail adapter required, but the busbar pitch must match. Clearance spacings: 50 mm upwards, 32 mm forwards, 10 mm downwards, 10 mm at the side, 0 mm backwards. These are the minimum free air gaps for heat dissipation and arc flash containment — don't crowd the top or front. Main circuit wiring uses spring-loaded terminals — no screw torque to verify, just strip and push. This speeds panel wiring but requires a ferrule for stranded wire to prevent strand fanning.
Thermal limits and storage range
Operating ambient temperature range is -20 to +60 °C with temperature compensation active across that span. Storage and transport range is -50 to +80 °C — the starter can sit in an unheated warehouse through winter without damage. Substance prohibitance date 03/01/2017 aligns with RoHS compliance — no restricted substances above threshold for EU market placement.
