Reversing starter, S0 frame — what's inside the box
The 3RA2225-0GB23-0AK6: This is a Siemens SIRIUS 3RA2 non-fused reversing motor starter, size S0, meaning it combines a reversing contactor pair, a thermal overload relay, and a magnetic short-circuit trip in one assembly that snaps onto 35 mm standard DIN rail. The unit ships with the contactor (3RT2023-1AK60), link module (3RA2921-1AA00), busbar adapter (3RA2922-1AA00), and RH assembly kit (3RA2923-1BB1) already integrated — you wire the main and control circuits, not assemble sub-components.
Class 10 trip and the thermal-magnetic pair
The short-circuit trip is magnetic (instantaneous), so the starter clears a bolted fault without waiting for the bimetal to heat up — the two protection functions work in parallel, not series. Rated power at 400 V is 180 W; at 500 V it's also 180 W, and at 690 V it reaches 250 W — the power rating climbs with voltage because the contactor's breaking capacity improves as the current drops for the same power.
Panel fit — clearances and DIN rail space
The starter measures 90 mm wide, 120 mm deep, and 265 mm tall — it occupies three 18 mm DIN-rail module positions plus some vertical headroom for the reversing contactor stack. Clearance requirements: 30 mm upward, 10 mm forward, 10 mm downward, 9 mm to the side, and 0 mm backward — meaning it can sit flush against the back panel, which saves depth in shallow enclosures. Mounting position is vertical only; the snap-on fastening on 35 mm standard rail means no tools for installation, but the vertical orientation is mandatory for the thermal overload to sense correctly.
Coil voltage and operating conditions
The control coil accepts 88–121 V at 50 Hz and 96–132 V at 60 Hz — a 110 V control transformer with ±10% tolerance covers both ranges; the wider 60 Hz band accounts for the higher impedance at 60 Hz. Ambient operating range is -20 to +60 °C; storage range is -50 to +80 °C; transport range is -55 to +80 °C — the wider transport range allows cold-weather shipping without pre-conditioning.
Wiring — main contact terminals
Main contacts accept stranded wire from 1 to 10 mm², or two parallel conductors of 2.5 to 6 mm² each — useful for paralleling feeds in high-current reversing applications. AWG equivalents: 2x (16–12) or 2x (14–8) — the dual-conductor capability is common on Siemens S0 starters for looping power through the top terminals.
Lifecycle and sourcing — active, quoted to order
The substance prohibitance date of 03/01/2017 indicates RoHS/REACH compliance documentation is on file — the starter meets EU substance restrictions as of that date.
