What this reversing contactor assembly does
The Siemens SIRIUS 3RA2316-8XB34-1DF4 is a factory-assembled reversing contactor combination in frame size S00, built around two 3RT2016-1DF44 contactors mechanically and electrically interlocked for direction reversal of three-phase motors. The assembly integrates a varistor surge suppressor across the coil, so you don't need to add a separate suppression module at the panel level. Rated for 4 kW at 400 V AC-3 (standard motor switching duty), it also carries 7.6 A at 480 V and 9 A at 600 V, with corresponding horsepower ratings of 5 hp at 460/480 V and 7.5 hp at 575/600 V. The coil is 110 V DC, screw-type terminals on both the coil and main current circuit. Four instantaneous auxiliary contacts (2 per direction) are built in, giving you feedback for status indication or interlocking without adding a separate auxiliary block.
The S00 footprint is compact: 90 mm wide, 68 mm high, 145 mm deep. Clearance requirements are minimal: 6 mm upwards, forwards, downwards, and to the side; 0 mm backwards (the DIN rail provides the rear gap). This lets you pack multiple S00 assemblies on a single rail without the derating that tighter layouts sometimes force. Terminal capacity accepts 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), or 2x 4 mm² solid or stranded conductors — covers standard motor leads and control wiring without needing adapters.
Shock resistance is rated at 10.5g for 5 ms and 6.6g for 10 ms on both AC and DC axes — sufficient for machine-mounted applications near presses or conveyors. Substance prohibitance date of 07/01/2006 indicates RoHS compliance for the European market.
