What this reversing contactor assembly is and why it matters
The Siemens SIRIUS 3RA2317-8XB30-2BW4 is a factory-assembled reversing contactor assembly — two mechanically interlocked contactors in one package, so a motor can be run forward and reverse without external interlocking wiring. It is sized S00, the smallest SIRIUS frame, and is rated 5.5 kW at 400 V AC-3, which means it handles standard three-phase induction motors up to that power in reversing duty. The 48 V DC coil is common in safety circuits and PLC-controlled panels where low-voltage control is preferred over line-voltage coils.
Mounting and integration — panel fit
The assembly occupies 90 mm width, 84 mm height, 83 mm depth — a compact footprint for a reversing pair.
Terminals and wiring — spring-loaded throughout
Both the main current circuit and the auxiliary/control circuit use spring-loaded terminals — no screw tightening, no torque spec to track. The main circuit accepts 2x (0.5... 4 mm²) solid or 2x (0.5... 2.5 mm²) stranded, or 1x AWG 20–12. The magnet coil also terminates to spring-type terminals. This is a time-saver on the panel build and eliminates loose-terminal callbacks.
What is inside — supplied components
The assembly ships with two 3RT2017-2BW42 contactors and one 3RA2913-2AA2 reversing assembly kit. The contactors are the standard S00 reversing pair; the kit provides the mechanical interlock and bus bars. This is a complete drop-in reversing starter — order it, mount it, wire the motor and control voltage.
