What this star-delta contactor assembly does
The Siemens 3RA2425-8XF32-2BB4-ZA01 is a pre-assembled contactor set for wye-delta (star-delta) motor starting in AC-3 duty. It handles 15 kW (direct-on-line rating) or 18.5 kW when configured for star-delta transition at 400 V, 50/60 Hz. The 24 V DC coil keeps the control circuit separate from the power side — common in PLC-driven panels where the control voltage is isolated from the motor supply.
Size S0 with spring terminals — what that means on the panel
Size S0 is the standard Siemens frame for contactors up to about 18.5 kW at 400 V. The spring-type (cage-clamp) terminals accept solid or ferruled stranded wire without retightening — a time-saver during panel build and a reliability gain under thermal cycling, since screw terminals can loosen over time. The 3 NO + 3 NC auxiliary contacts are integrated into the assembly, so no add-on block is needed for basic feedback or interlocking.
Electrical and mechanical interlock — why it matters here
In a star-delta starter, the main and delta contactors must never close simultaneously — that would short the motor windings through the transition resistors. This assembly includes both an electrical interlock (wired through the auxiliary contacts) and a mechanical interlock (a physical bar between the contactor armatures). The mechanical interlock is the failsafe: even if a weld or control fault holds one contactor closed, the other physically cannot engage.
