Reversing starter with IO-Link – modular motor management
The Siemens 3RA2711-1BB00 is a Sirius reversing starter basic module – it handles forward/reverse switching for three-phase motors without a separate reversing contactor pair. It is not a direct starter or a star-delta starter; the reversing topology is built in. Control is 24 V DC, and the module includes an IO-Link interface for parameterisation, diagnostics, and condition monitoring – a step up from hardwired-only reversing starters. The varistor surge suppressor clamps switching transients at the coil. It mounts by plugging directly onto Siemens contactors in sizes S00, S0, S2, or S3 – no additional DIN-rail footprint. The front is IP20 and finger-safe per IEC 60529, so it can sit in open panels without extra guarding.
Termination and wiring – screw terminals, solid and stranded
Auxiliary and control circuits terminate on screw-type terminals that accept solid conductors 0.5…4 mm² or two conductors 0.5…2.5 mm². AWG equivalents for auxiliary contacts are 2x 20…14. This cuts panel wiring time and simplifies replacement without disturbing the field wiring.
Environmental and EMC – industrial floor ready
Operating temperature range is -25…+60°C; storage and transport extend to -40…+80°C. Shock resistance is 11 g for 15 ms, vibration resistance 10…55 Hz at 0.35 mm – suitable for machine-mounted applications. EMC immunity meets IEC 60947-1 ambient A (industrial sector) with 8 kV electrostatic discharge per IEC 61000-4-2 and 10 V/m field interference per IEC 61000-4-3. Emitted interference complies with CISPR11, ambient A. Maximum installation altitude is 2000 m.
