What this IO-Link function module does
The Siemens 3RA2711-2CA00 is a Sirius function module designed for star-delta starter configurations — it is not a direct or reversing starter but integrates the control and communication interface for a star-delta motor start sequence. It carries an IO-Link interface (control circuit interface with IO link is Yes) and draws 24 VDC control supply, so it connects directly to an IO-Link master for parameter setting, diagnostics, and status feedback without additional fieldbus couplers.
Mounting, wiring, and environmental limits
The module measures 45 mm wide × 39 mm high × 75 mm deep and mounts in any position — no derating for orientation — so it fits tight panel layouts where vertical or horizontal stacking is needed. Wiring is via spring-loaded terminals accepting 1x or 2x solid/stranded conductors from 0.25 to 1.5 mm² (with or without core-end processing) and 2x AWG 24–16 for auxiliary circuits; no screw torque to check, just strip and insert. Front protection is IP20 and finger-safe per IEC 60529, which means the module is touch-safe when installed in a closed panel but not rated for washdown or outdoor exposure. The module includes a varistor surge suppressor on the control side to clip voltage transients from the coil circuit.
EMC and shock/vibration ratings
EMC immunity is rated for industrial environment A per IEC 60947-1, with electrostatic discharge withstand at 8 kV (IEC 61000-4-2) and field-based interference at 10 V/m (IEC 61000-4-3). Emitted interference complies with CISPR11 for industrial environment A, so it will not radiate excessive noise in a typical control cabinet but is not intended for residential or light-commercial zones. Shock resistance is 11 g for 15 ms, and vibration resistance is 0.35 mm displacement at 10–55 Hz — suitable for machine-mounted panels near motors or conveyors. Maximum installation altitude is 2000 m above sea level; above that, derate the insulation voltage and ambient temperature per IEC 60947-1.
This is a Siemens Sirius branded module, not a third-party or obsolete alternative.
