What this AS-i function module does on a reversing starter
The 3RA2712-2BA00: This SIRIUS function module plugs onto a contactor to add AS-i bus communication and reversing control logic — it is not a standalone starter, but the brains that tell the contactor which way to spin. It handles reversing duty but not direct or star-delta starting. The control supply is 24 V DC, and the module communicates over the AS-i bus — no separate control wiring for forward/reverse if the bus carries the command. A built-in varistor surge suppressor clamps inductive spikes from the contactor coil.
Panel fit and wiring — spring terminals, 45 mm wide
The module is 45 mm wide, 39 mm high, and 75 mm deep — it clips onto the contactor face and adds no extra DIN-rail width beyond the contactor itself. Mounting position is any orientation. For AWG, that's 2x 24–16. Front protection is IP20 and finger-safe per IEC 60529 — fine for enclosed panels, but not for washdown zones.
Environmental and EMC ratings for industrial panels
Installation altitude is up to 2000 m. Pollution degree 3 means it tolerates conductive dust in a typical industrial enclosure. EMC immunity includes 8 kV electrostatic discharge (IEC 61000-4-2) and 10 V/m radiated field (IEC 61000-4-3). The module is rated for industrial environment A per IEC 60947-1 for both immunity and emissions. Vibration resistance is 10–55 Hz at 0.35 mm amplitude, shock resistance 11 g for 15 ms — standard for panel-mounted gear near contactors and drives.
