The Siemens 3RA6250-1AP32 is a SIRIUS compact reversing starter — a single device combining a reversing contactor and a motor-protective overload relay in a 90 mm wide housing. It is designed for continuous operation per IEC 60947-6-2, meaning it handles both forward/reverse motor switching and thermal overload protection in one package, saving panel space and wiring. For a reversing starter this matters because the same unit must protect both rotation directions; 53 kA gives headroom for most industrial distribution panels without additional upstream fusing. Trip class is adjustable between CLASS 10 and CLASS 20, so you can match the overload curve to the motor's starting characteristics — CLASS 10 for standard induction motors, CLASS 20 for high-inertia loads like fans or centrifuges. This is set via a dial on the relay, no separate module needed.
Control voltage and wiring
The control coil accepts AC/DC 110-240 V at 50/60 Hz — wide-range, so it works on both 120 V and 230 V control circuits without a transformer tap change. Coil power consumption is 6 W AC maximum, 5.1 W DC maximum, which is low enough for a PLC digital output to drive directly via an interposing relay. Main circuit terminals are screw-type, accepting 0.5 to 4 mm² solid or stranded, and 2x 0.5 to 2.5 mm² for daisy-chaining. The control terminals accept the same range.
Shock resistance is 6g for 10 ms per three shocks in all axes; vibration resistance covers 4-5.8 Hz at 15 mm amplitude and 5.8-500 Hz at 20 m/s² for 10 cycles. The recommended mounting is vertical on a horizontal standard mounting rail, but horizontal or angled is also acceptable.
