SIRIUS compact starter with IO-Link — 0.09 kW at 400 V
The Siemens 3RA6400-1AB42 is a SIRIUS compact starter designed as a direct starter for motor control in industrial automation. It integrates a contactor and overload relay into a single 45 mm-wide unit, saving panel space over discrete components. The 53 kA short-circuit current rating at 400 V means it can be installed on panels with high available fault current without requiring upstream current-limiting fuses in many cases. The control coil is 24 V DC, a standard PLC output voltage, simplifying wiring from a 24 VDC power supply. Power dissipation is minimal: 2.9 W at DC maximum and only 0.01 W at AC in hot operating state.
Adjustable trip class and IO-Link communication
The overload protection is adjustable between Class 10 and Class 20 trip curves, letting you match the thermal model to the motor's starting characteristics — Class 10 for high-inertia loads like fans, Class 20 for harder-starting loads like conveyors. This is set via IO-Link, not a physical dial. IO-Link communication runs at COM2 (38.4 kBaud), enabling parameterization, diagnostics, and status feedback directly to the controller. The three integrated LEDs indicate operating state and fault conditions. Rated for continuous operation per IEC 60947-6-2, with a no-load switching frequency of 3,600 operations per hour and a typical mechanical life of 10 million operations for both main and auxiliary contacts.
Mounting, wiring, and environmental tolerance
Mounts on standard 35 mm DIN rail via the snap-on mechanism, with screw fastening also supported. The mounting position is any, though vertical on horizontal DIN rail is recommended. Screw-type terminals are standard. Operating temperature range is -20 to +60 °C, with storage and transport limits of -55 to +80 °C. Vibration resistance is tested to 20 m/s² at 5.8–500 Hz, and shock resistance to 60 m/s² (6 g) with 10 ms pulses across all axes — suitable for machinery-mounted applications.
