SIRIUS compact starter with IO-Link — 32 A, 53 kA SCCR
The Siemens 3RA6400-1EB42 is a SIRIUS compact starter rated 32 A at 400 V AC and 32 A at 480 V AC, with a breaking capacity of 53 kA at 400 V — that SCCR headroom means it can interrupt a bolted fault up to that level without upstream fuses needing to clear first, a real advantage when coordinating a panel's selective coordination study. It is a direct starter design rated for continuous operation per IEC 60947-6-2, so it handles sustained motor loads without derating, provided the ambient stays within -20 to +60 °C during operation. The adjustable Trip Class — selectable between CLASS 10 and CLASS 20 — lets you match the overload curve to the motor's starting profile: CLASS 10 for faster-starting loads like pumps and fans, CLASS 20 for high-inertia loads such as centrifuges or crushers that need a longer acceleration window. IO-Link communication at COM2 (38.4 kBaud) gives the controls integrator access to parameterization, diagnostics, and status data — current draw, thermal utilization, trip counters — without running additional sense wires back to the PLC.
Mounting and wiring — DIN rail, screw terminals, 45 mm wide
Main circuit connections use screw-type terminals accepting 0.5 to 4 mm² solid or stranded, or 2x 0.5 to 2.5 mm² — fine for motor branch circuits up to the rated current. Strip length per the terminal spec keeps the cage from pinching insulation. The 24 V DC coil draws a maximum of 3.4 W under continuous DC excitation; at rated AC in hot operating state the power dissipation is 5.4 W. Three onboard LEDs indicate status — run, overload trip, and fault — which helps a field service tech diagnose a tripped starter without opening the panel door or connecting a handheld.
