The Siemens 3RA6400-2AB42 is a SIRIUS compact starter designed as a direct starter for continuous operation per IEC 60947-6-2. The 24 V DC coil draws a maximum of 2.9 W, and the adjustable trip class (CLASS 10 or 20) lets you match the overload release to the motor start profile — Class 10 for faster starts, Class 20 for higher-inertia loads.
IO-Link and signal integrity
IO-Link is built in at COM2 (38.4 kBaud), so the starter reports load current, trip status, and thermal capacity directly to the controller without a separate analog card. Three LEDs on the front give local status — useful when the line is down and you're walking the panel.
At 45 mm wide × 191 mm high × 165 mm deep, it occupies a single DIN-rail slot. Mounting position is any, but the recommended orientation is vertical on a horizontal DIN rail. The -20 to +60 °C operating range covers most unventilated enclosures, and the pollution degree 3 rating means it tolerates conductive dust and humidity typical of industrial control rooms. Shock and vibration resistance are specified: 6g for 10 ms shocks and 20 m/s² vibration up to 500 Hz — it will hold calibration on a conveyor line or a pump skid.
