What this AS-i add-on module does on the line
The 3RA6970-3C is a SIRIUS AS-i mounting module that adds two free external inputs to an AS-i network — think of it as a local input expander that sits on the motor starter assembly, not a standalone controller. It uses screw-type terminals for the auxiliary and control circuit wiring, with a tightening torque window of 0.5 to 0.6 N·m — stay inside that range to avoid crushing the conductor or backing off under vibration. The front face carries IP20 finger-safe touch protection per IEC 60529, so an operator reaching into the panel contacts the vertical surface without shock risk, provided the module is mounted behind a door or cover.
Panel fit and environmental limits
Dimensions are 45 mm wide, 50 mm high, 78 mm deep — the 45 mm width occupies three 15 mm DIN-rail spacing units, so check that the rail has room alongside the motor starter and any other AS-i slaves. Operating temperature range is -20 to +60 °C with 10 to 90 % relative humidity; storage from -25 to +80 °C and transport from -25 to +70 °C. That covers most indoor industrial environments but not extended outdoor exposure without a heated enclosure.
