What this relay does on the line
The 3RB1257-0KM21: This is a solid-state overload relay for three-phase motor circuits, rated 125 to 500 A AC at 220 to 240 V 50/60 Hz. It includes integrated thermistor (PTC) protection for motor winding temperature monitoring and internal earth-fault detection — so it covers three protection functions in one unit: overload, overtemperature, and ground leakage. The 1NO/1NC bistable outputs for overload/thermistor and a separate 1NO/1NC for earth fault let you wire the trip signals into separate safety circuits or a PLC input card. Bistable means the relay latches on trip and holds its state even if control power is lost — no dropout on a momentary supply dip.
Deployment context
Mounts on a DIN rail in the motor control center or panel. The 125 to 500 A range covers large motors — think pumps, compressors, conveyors, or fans in the 75 to 300 kW ballpark depending on voltage and duty. The internal earth-fault detection saves an external ground-fault relay on the feeder, which simplifies the panel layout and reduces wiring. The 220 to 240 V control supply is standard for North American and European control transformers.
