Input architecture and group gating
The 3RG9004-0DE00 is a 16-input digital module for AS-Interface networks, but the inputs are not read continuously. They are arranged in four groups of four (G1 through G4, mapped to D0–D3), and each group is activated individually by the control system setting its group signal before the switching states of the assigned inputs are read in. This gated architecture means the module draws only 70 mA max from the AS-Interface bus, but it also imposes a sequencing requirement in the PLC program — the group signals must be strobed in the correct order to capture all 16 inputs within the bus cycle.
Power supply and wiring constraints
The module requires an external auxiliary supply (AUX POWER) of 20 to 30 V DC, compliant with VDE 0106 (PELV), protection class III, to power the output circuits. The sensor supply itself comes from the AS-Interface cable and is short-circuit and overload resistant. Input circuits use PNP transistors with a minimum switching level of 20 V and a minimum input current of 3 mA. The module accepts mechanical contacts as sensors.
IP20 rated, it is intended for control-cabinet installation only — not for washdown or outdoor deployment.
