What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RH1344-2DB40-0KA0-ZW97 is a SIRIUS auxiliary contactor in size S00 — a compact switching block for control circuits, not motor loads. Its 24 V DC coil pulls in at 3.2 W and holds at the same 3.2 W, so the coil draw is constant; no economizer circuit inside. The four normally-open instantaneous contacts (4 NO, zero NC) are rated 10 A at 24 V, 6 A at 230 V, and 3 A at 400 V, which covers most PLC output interposing and signal-level switching in a panel. Built-in varistor surge suppression on the coil means you don't need an external flyback diode or RC snubber for DC switching — the varistor clamps the inductive kick. That saves a wiring step and one component on the DIN rail.
Mounting and integration
Mounts via screw or snap-on to a DIN rail. The 45 mm width and 60 mm height fit the S00 footprint, and the 114 mm depth leaves clearance for wiring ducts. Mounting position is flexible: ±180° rotation on a vertical surface, plus ±22.5° tilt forward/backward — useful when the panel layout forces an odd angle. IP20 on the front means it's protected against finger contact but not washdown; keep it inside a closed enclosure. Terminals accept solid or stranded wire from 0.25 to 2.5 mm² (two conductors per clamp). That's standard for control wiring up to 14 AWG. No special ferrule requirement, but stranded wire benefits from a ferrule for reliable clamping in the screw terminal.
Environmental and compliance
Rated for operation from -25 to +60 °C, storage and transport from -55 to +80 °C. Shock resistance is 10g at 5 ms and 5g at 10 ms — tough enough for most industrial panels but not for direct machine-mount on a vibrating press. Pollution degree 3 means it's suited for industrial environments with conductive dust or occasional condensation. RoHS compliance date is July 1, 2006, covering the standard EU substance restrictions. Surge voltage resistance is rated at 6 kV, which aligns with basic insulation coordination for 400 VAC control circuits.
