What the ratings mean for the buyer
The 3RH2140-2HB40: The 10 A at 24 V is the thermal current (AC-1 / resistive load) — that's the continuous current the contacts can carry without welding or overheating. For DC switching at higher voltages, the rating drops: 4.7 A at 60 V, 3 A at 110 V, 1.2 A at 220 V, 0.5 A at 440 V, and 0.26 A at 600 V. That DC derating curve matters because DC arcs don't self-extinguish at zero-crossing the way AC does; the relay's contact gap and arc-chamber design limit the interrupting ability. For AC loads, it handles 10 A at 230 V and 3 A at 400 V. The mechanical life is 30 million operations — the electrical life will be shorter and depends on the load switched.
Integration into the panel
The 3RH2140-2HB40 mounts on a 35 mm DIN rail via the integrated snap-on latch, or can be screwed directly to a backplate. Clearance around the relay: 10 mm upward, 10 mm forward, 10 mm downward, and 6 mm to the side. Ambient operating temperature is -25 to +60 °C; storage range is -55 to +80 °C. The screw terminals accept 2 x 0.5 to 4 mm² solid or stranded wire. Pollution degree 3 means it's rated for conductive pollution environments — typical in industrial enclosures without climate control.
