What this safety monitor does
The Siemens 3RK1105-1BE04-2CA0 is an ASIsafe extended safety monitor with 2 enabling circuits and 2 release circuits, designed to supervise safety gates, light curtains, and e-stop chains up to SIL 3 (IEC 61508), PL e (EN ISO 13849-1), and Category 4 (EN 954-1). It communicates over AS-Interface protocol, making it a drop-in safety logic controller for ASIsafe networks. The 40 ms maximum response time means the safety loop opens fast enough to meet the stopping-distance requirements of most guarded machinery.
The 2 enabling circuits are the safety outputs — each is a relay that opens when the monitor detects a fault or a demand from the safety input devices. The 2 release circuits are the internal safety paths that must both be healthy before the enabling circuits can close. This dual-channel architecture is what lets the monitor achieve Category 4 / SIL 3: a single fault in either channel won't prevent the safety function from working. The AC-12 rating of 3 A at 250 V and DC-12 rating of 3 A at 24 V tell you the maximum resistive load each enabling circuit can switch — for inductive loads like contactor coils, you'll need to derate or add suppression. The 24 V control supply draw of 1 A is the total current the monitor pulls from the AS-Interface bus or auxiliary supply; budget that into your AS-i power calculation.
At 45 mm wide and 120 mm deep, it occupies a single standard module width — plan for one slot in your DIN-rail layout. The IP20 finger-safe enclosure means it's suitable for inside a control cabinet only; no washdown or outdoor duty. All I/O connections use screw terminals, so have a 0.5–2.5 mm² screwdriver ready. The AS-Interface bus connection is also via screw terminals; no special AS-i flat cable required.
