Electronic direct starter for distributed motor control
The Siemens 3RK1300-0BS10-0AA3 is an EM300 EDS (Electronic Direct Starter) from the SIRIUS family, designed for the ET 200X distributed I/O system. It is a solid-state direct starter with solid-state switching contacts, meaning it handles motor starting and stopping without mechanical contactor wear. The setting range spans 2.0 A to 5.95 A, covering motor loads from 0.75 kW up to 2.2 kW at 400 V AC-3 duty — that is the motor-switching rating, so it governs the maximum induction motor it can start and stop under load.
IP65 and PROFIBUS DP for field-mount applications
Rated IP65, the enclosure is sealed against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets — suited for washdown environments or outdoor cabinets where the starter mounts directly on the machine frame rather than in a central panel. Communication is over PROFIBUS DP, the fieldbus standard for this class of distributed starter, allowing parameterization and diagnostics from the PLC without a separate control wiring loom. The 9-pole power connection uses tab terminals for the main current circuit. An integrated motor brake output is included on this variant — the 'with brake contact' designation in the description means the starter can directly control a holding brake, saving an external relay or contactor for vertical-load applications.
Protection and breaking capacity
Short-circuit protection is designed around external fuses (the design calls for fuse protection). The maximum short-circuit breaking capacity (Icu) at 400 V is rated at 100 A — this is the fault current the solid-state output can safely interrupt without damage, not the continuous rating. The ambient operating temperature range is 0 to 55 °C, so it is not rated for freezing environments or high-heat enclosures without derating consideration.
