What this is and what it does
The Siemens 3RK1300-0BS10-0AA4 is an EM 300 EDS electronic direct starter designed for the ET 200 X distributed I/O system. It's a solid-state motor starter with integrated motor protection, combining a direct starter, overload protection, and short-circuit protection into one IP65-rated enclosure. The setting range is 2.0 to 5.95 A, covering AC-3 motor loads from 0.75 kW up to 2.2 kW at 400 V. It includes a motor brake output rated DC 500 V / 1 A, and communicates over PROFIBUS DP.
Key ratings and what they mean for fit
The 2.0-5.95 A setting range maps to the motor's full-load current — you dial in the nameplate FLA, and the solid-state electronics handle the overload curve. The AC-3 rating of 2.2 kW at 400 V means it's sized for standard squirrel-cage induction motors up to that power; the minimum 0.75 kW floor tells you it can also protect smaller motors without nuisance tripping. The IP65 enclosure means the unit is dust-tight and protected against low-pressure water jets — it's meant for on-machine mounting near the motor, not inside a clean control cabinet. The short-circuit breaking capacity (Icu) is 100 A at 400 V. That's the maximum fault current the unit can interrupt without damage — upstream fuses (per the design, fuse-based short-circuit protection is specified) must limit let-through to this level. The operating voltage range is 400-500 V AC, covering 400 V and 480 V nominal systems common in industrial plants.
Where it fits in the system
This starter mounts directly on the ET 200 X backplane — it's not a standalone DIN-rail device. The 140 mm width, 270 mm height, and 134 mm depth define the footprint on the distributed I/O node. Main circuit connections use tab terminals, so you're looking at fast-on connectors rather than screw clamps for the power wiring. The PROFIBUS DP interface is built in, no separate communication module needed.
