What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RK1300-1KS01-0AA4 is an EM 300 DS electromechanical direct starter designed for the ET 200 X distributed I/O system. It integrates a motor starter, bimetal overload protection, and a brake output into a single IP65-rated enclosure, making it suitable for direct-on-line starting of motors up to 5.5 kW at 400 V AC-3 duty.
Key ratings and what they mean for fit
The setting range of 9...12 A defines the full-load current window for the bimetal overload relay — set it to the motor nameplate FLA. The AC-3 rating of 5.5 kW at 400 V covers standard 4-pole induction motors in that power class; the operating voltage range of 400...500 V means it works on 400 V and 480 V networks without a tap change. IP65 protection allows mounting directly on the machine frame or in a washdown zone — no separate enclosure needed for dust or hose-directed water. The 9-pole motor feeder and 9-pole power connection handle the motor leads plus brake wiring in one plug. The integrated brake contact is rated for DC 500 V / 1 A, sized for internally supplied DC brakes common on small servo and asynchronous motors. The PROFIBUS DP interface lets the starter communicate directly with a PLC over the fieldbus, eliminating point-to-point control wiring.
Dimensions and panel fit
At 134 mm deep, 140 mm wide, and 270 mm tall, this starter occupies a compact footprint for a fully enclosed motor start + brake + bus node. The tab terminals for the main current circuit accept standard quick-connect receptacles; plan for clearance above and below for cable entry and the 9-pole connectors.
