AS-i compact starter for distributed motor control
The Siemens 3RK1322-0BS12-0AA3 is an AS-i compact starter — a direct-on-line (DOL) motor starter in an IP65 enclosure, rated for 2.2 kW at 400 V AC-3 duty. It integrates solid-state motor protection and solid-state switching contacts, with a setting range of 2 to 5.95 A. Communication is over AS-interface (AS-i) protocol, with two integrated inputs for sensors and a bus communication function. The unit also includes a motor brake output for internally supplied brakes at 400 V AC — a common requirement for holding brakes on vertical-axis motors.
The 2...5.95 A setting range covers small motors from 0.75 kW up to 2.2 kW at 400 V AC-3. That AC-3 rating is the key figure — it tells you the starter is designed for starting squirrel-cage motors (high inrush, low duty cycle), not resistive loads. The solid-state motor protection eliminates the need for a separate overload relay; the trip curve is embedded in the electronics. The required external fusing is specified as part of the design (fuse protection). The 190 mm depth, 120 mm width, and 270 mm height give a compact footprint for machine-mounting. Main circuit connections use tab terminals, not screw clamps — plan for fast-on connectors.
