The Siemens 3RK1322-0CS02-0AA3 is an AS-interface compact direct starter — an electromechanical DOL (direct-on-line) motor starter in an IP65-rated enclosure, ready for field-mounting near the motor rather than inside a control cabinet. It switches a 0.06 kW motor at 400 V under AC-3 duty (the standard induction-motor switching category per IEC 60947-4-1), with a setting range of 0.18 to 0.25 A via a bimetal overload relay. The unit includes a motor brake output (400 V AC) and two integrated inputs, so it can handle a small brake motor and accept local sensor signals without an extra I/O block.
AS-interface integration and connectivity
Communication runs over AS-interface (AS-i protocol), not PROFIBUS DP. That keeps wiring simple — a single two-wire flat cable carries both power and data to the starter. The main current circuit connects via tab terminals, and the motor outgoing feeder and power connection are both 9-pole, so the cabling is a single pre-wired harness to the motor and the AS-i network. The unit is designed for direct panel-side or machine-frame mounting — no DIN rail required. Dimensions are 270 mm high, 120 mm wide, 190 mm deep. At IP65, you can mount it directly on the machine frame without a separate enclosure, saving panel space and gland-plate work.
Protection and breaking capacity
Short-circuit protection is provided by circuit-breakers integrated into the design, with a maximum short-circuit breaking capacity (Icu) of 50,000 A at 400 V. That is a high fault-current rating for a starter this size — it can sit on a high-capacity distribution board without needing upstream fuses to limit the let-through. The motor protection is bimetal-based, set within the 0.18 to 0.25 A window. The ambient temperature range during operation is -25 to +55 °C, which covers most plant-floor conditions without derating. The equipment marking per DIN EN 61346-2 is Q (motor starter function).
