AS-i compact reversing starter for distributed motor control
The Siemens 3RK1322-0CS02-1AA1 is an AS-interface compact reversing starter designed for distributed motor control in IP65-rated enclosures — no separate control cabinet needed. It integrates an electromechanical reversing starter with bimetal motor protection, a 24 V DC / 3 A brake contact output, and two integrated inputs, all communicating over the AS-i bus protocol. Rated at 0.06 kW in AC-3 duty at 400 V, the unit covers small reversing motor loads — conveyors, diverters, gate actuators — where space is tight and wiring needs to stay local. The setting range of 0.18 to 0.25 A matches the full-load current of fractional-horsepower motors in that power band. The IP65 rating means the entire assembly — contacts, overload, bus interface — withstands washdown and dust ingress, so it mounts directly on the machine frame or in a field junction box rather than back in a panel. Ambient operation from -25 to +55 °C covers most production-floor conditions without derating.
Short-circuit breaking capacity and coordination
The unit carries a maximum short-circuit breaking capacity (Icu) of 50,000 A at 400 V — high enough to install downstream of most distribution transformers without worrying about cascading failure. Short-circuit protection is designed around circuit-breakers, not fuses, which simplifies coordination for panel builders.
Bus integration and wiring
AS-interface is the only bus protocol on this variant (no PROFIBUS DP). The bus communication function is built in, so the starter is addressed and monitored directly from the AS-i master without an extra gateway. Main current connections use tab terminals — expect a 9-pole motor outgoing feeder and a 9-pole power connection, consistent with the AS-i flat-cable form factor. Dimensions of 190 mm deep, 120 mm wide, and 270 mm high fit the standard AS-i compact starter footprint. The equipment marking per DIN EN 61346-2 is Q, the standard identifier for motor starters in schematic diagrams.
