AS-interface compact DOL starter with integrated brake contact
The Siemens 3RK1322-0ES02-0AA3 is an AS-interface compact direct-on-line starter rated for 0.28 to 0.4 A full-scale, delivering 0.1 kW at 400 V under AC-3 duty — the motor-load switching category per IEC 60947-4-1. That 0.1 kW figure is the operating power at 400 V, not the resistive-heat rating; it governs the motor size this starter can handle in a standard three-phase induction motor application. The IP65 enclosure means the electromechanical switching contacts and bimetal overload protection are sealed against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets — suitable for washdown zones on packaging lines, conveyor sections, or food-processing machinery where hose-down cleaning is routine. Communication runs over AS-interface protocol (no PROFIBUS DP onboard), with two integrated inputs for local sensors or pushbuttons. The part includes a motor brake output contact, so a holding brake on a vertical-axis motor can be controlled directly from the starter without an external relay.
Short-circuit breaking capacity and coordination
The maximum short-circuit breaking capacity (Icu) at 400 V is 50 000 A. That figure tells you the starter can safely interrupt a fault current up to 50 kA without catastrophic failure — relevant when the upstream transformer or supply is stiff enough to deliver that level of fault current. The short-circuit protection is designed around circuit-breakers, per the product design. Tab terminals on the main current circuit accept standard 9-pole motor outgoing feeder and 9-pole power connection. The 270 mm height, 120 mm width, and 190 mm depth define the panel space required; verify clearance for the AS-i bus cable entry and the brake contact wiring.
