AS-i Compact Reversing Starter for Decentralized Motor Control
The Siemens 3RK1322-0ES02-1AA4 is an AS-interface compact reversing starter in an IP65 enclosure, designed for decentralized motor control right at the machine — no separate control cabinet needed for the motor branch. It integrates an electromechanical reversing contactor, a bimetal overload relay set for 0.28 to 0.4 A, and short-circuit protection via circuit-breakers, all in one 120 x 270 x 190 mm package. Rated at 0.1 kW at 400 V AC-3 duty, this starter handles small reversing loads — conveyors, gate drives, or positioning axes — where the motor needs to run in both directions. The 50 kA breaking capacity at 400 V (Icu) means it can safely interrupt a fault current up to that level without upstream fuses needing to clear first, simplifying coordination in a distribution panel. The IP65 rating means the entire starter — contacts, overload, and AS-i bus interface — is sealed against dust and low-pressure water jets, so it mounts directly on the machine frame in washdown or outdoor environments. No need for a separate enclosure.
AS-Interface Integration and Brake Output
Communication is over AS-interface (AS-i) protocol — no PROFIBUS DP on this variant. The starter includes bus communication capability and two integrated digital inputs for local sensors or limit switches, reducing the need for separate I/O blocks at the machine. A motor brake output is built in, rated for 500 V DC / 1 A, so it can directly control a DC brake coil on the motor without an external relay. The main circuit connects via tab terminals — quick-connect blades rather than screw clamps — which speeds wiring in high-volume machine builds. Operating temperature range is -25 to +55 °C, covering most factory-floor conditions without derating. The equipment marking per DIN EN 61346-2 is Q, the standard identifier for motor starters in schematic diagrams.
