The Siemens 3RK1322-1BS02-0AA0 is a direct starter — a self-contained motor-starting and protection unit — built for AS-Interface networks. The enclosure is rated IP65, so the body and all connections are sealed against cement dust, airborne grit, and hose-down cleaning. That's the difference between a starter that eats the dust and runs versus one that chokes on it after a shift. Operating voltage range is 400 to 500 V AC, with a short-circuit breaking capacity of 50 kA at 400 V.
Integration and connectivity
Communication and power supply both run through AS-Interface shaped cables using cutting/clamping method — no separate fieldbus wiring looms. The unit has a front addressing socket for setting the AS-i address, and a socket according to ISO23570 handles the main energy infeed and load-side outgoing feeder. Two digital inputs are available via M12 sockets, parameterized as fixed (not configurable). There are no digital outputs on this variant. The design uses electromechanical switching contacts with bimetal motor protection. Dimensions are 270 mm high, 120 mm wide, 190 mm deep — fits a standard enclosure footprint. The IP65 rating means it can be mounted directly on the machine frame, not buried in a central cabinet, saving panel space and copper.
