AS-i Compact Direct Starter for Decentralized Motor Control
The Siemens 3RK1322-1BS02-0AA3 is an AS-interface compact direct starter (DOL) rated for 0.75 kW at AC-3 duty on a 400 V supply, with a bimetal overload setting range of 1.4 to 2 A. The IP65 enclosure means it mounts directly on the machine frame or conveyor section — no separate control panel needed for the motor branch — and survives washdown environments common in food, beverage, and material handling lines. The 50 kA Icu at 400 V gives it the fault-clearing capacity to coordinate with upstream MCCB or fuse protection without cascading damage. Communication runs over AS-interface (AS-i), the two-wire bus that carries both power and data to the device. That eliminates a separate control cable and simplifies wiring in distributed architectures where the starter sits remote from the PLC cabinet. The unit also integrates a motor brake output (400 V AC) and two local inputs, so a single device handles the motor start, stop, brake release, and a proximity or limit switch signal.
The 0.75 kW AC-3 rating at 400 V is the motor-switching capacity — it covers standard three-phase induction motors up to that power in Category AC-3 (starting, stopping, and plug reversing). The 1.4 to 2 A setting range on the bimetal overload matches the full-load current of a 0.75 kW motor at 400 V; if your motor draws outside that window, this unit won't provide proper thermal protection. The -25 to +55 °C operating range covers unheated warehouse and outdoor installation within reason, but the IP65 rating is the real deployment constraint: it keeps out dust and low-pressure water jets, so it's suitable for washdown zones but not for submersion or high-pressure spray (that would need IP67 or IP69K). The tab terminals on the main circuit (9-pole motor and power connectors) require matching tab receptacles — not screw terminals — so verify your cable terminations before wiring.
Integration Notes
The housing measures 190 mm deep by 120 mm wide by 270 mm high. It mounts via the integrated fixing points — no DIN rail required, which is typical for IP65 distributed starters that bolt directly to a machine frame or wall bracket. The 9-pole motor and power connectors use tab terminals; the AS-i bus connects via the standard M12 round connector (not included). The two integrated inputs accept 24 V DC sensors or switches; wire them to the M12 input connector per the AS-i profile mapping.
