AS-Interface reversing starter for distributed motor control
The Siemens 3RK1322-1GS02-1AA4 is a SIRIUS AS-Interface compact reversing starter designed for distributed motor control in IP65-rated enclosures. It integrates an electromechanical reversing contactor, a bimetal overload relay with a setting range of 4.5 to 6.3 A, and short-circuit protection via circuit-breakers into a single 190 mm deep, 120 mm wide, 270 mm high package. Communication runs over AS-Interface (AS-i protocol), not PROFIBUS DP, so this starter is a direct fit for AS-i networks common in material handling and automotive body shops. It includes a motor brake output rated at 500 V DC / 1 A, allowing a holding brake to be controlled directly from the starter without an external relay.
The 4.5 to 6.3 A bimetal setting range covers motors drawing roughly 4.5 to 6.3 A full-load at 400 V — typically 1.5 to 2.2 kW four-pole induction motors. AC-3 duty is the standard for reversing starters because it accounts for the higher inrush and breaking current of motor starting. This SCCR figure is critical for panel builders coordinating with upstream protective devices — it determines whether the starter can be used on a high-fault-capacity supply without additional current-limiting fuses. The IP65 enclosure means the starter can be mounted directly on a machine frame or conveyor structure without a separate control panel, as long as the cable glands are properly sealed.
The main current circuit connects via tab terminals, which are common for IP65-rated distributed starters — they accept standard quick-connect receptacles or can be crimped to motor cables. The 9-pole motor outgoing feeder and 9-pole power connection are pre-wired from the factory, reducing field wiring time.
Integration notes
At 190 mm deep, 120 mm wide, and 270 mm high, this starter occupies roughly the footprint of a small junction box. It mounts directly to a machine frame or bracket via its IP65 housing — no DIN rail required inside a panel. The two integrated inputs (part of the 9-pole connection) allow limit switches or pushbuttons to be wired directly to the AS-i node, reducing I/O module count. The brake output is rated 500 V DC / 1 A — sized for the solenoid coil of a typical disc brake on a small motor. Verify the brake coil current and voltage against this rating before specifying; the output is not intended for large electromagnetic brakes drawing several amps.
