What this AS-i reversing starter is and where it goes
The Siemens 3RK1322-1HS02-1AA3 is a SIRIUS AS-interface compact reversing starter in an IP65 enclosure — a self-contained motor control unit that handles forward/reverse switching, motor protection, and bus communication without a separate panel. It's built for distributed motor control on conveyors, material handling, and packaging lines where you want the starter close to the motor rather than in a central cabinet. Rated 3 kW at AC-3 duty on 400 V (setting range 5.5...8 A), with a 50 kA short-circuit breaking capacity at 400 V. That SCCR means it can safely interrupt a fault up to 50 kA without upstream damage — important for coordination studies on a plant-wide power system. Motor protection is via a bimetal overload relay, and short-circuit protection is handled by integrated circuit-breakers. The unit also includes a motor brake output and two integrated inputs for local sensors or pushbuttons.
Fieldbus and connectivity
This starter communicates over AS-interface (AS-i), not PROFIBUS DP. The bus communication function is built in, so it connects directly to an AS-i network without an extra gateway module. Power and motor connections use tab terminals; the 9-pole motor outgoing feeder and 9-pole power connection are pre-configured for quick plug-in wiring.
Physical fit and environment
Dimensions are 270 mm high, 120 mm wide, 190 mm deep. The IP65 rating means the enclosure is dust-tight and protected against water jets — suitable for washdown areas and outdoor installation without a secondary enclosure. Operating ambient temperature range is -25 to +55 °C.
