Reversing Starter in an IP65 Enclosure
The Siemens 3RK1395-6KS41-1AD5 is a SIRIUS reversing motor starter designed for direct-on-line reversing of three-phase motors up to 0.75 kW at 400 V or 1 hp at 575/600 V. It's built into an IP65-rated enclosure, so it handles washdown environments and outdoor installation without a separate cabinet — suitable for conveyor reversing stations, pump alternation, or any application where the motor needs to run in both directions and the starter lives on the machine frame, not in a panel. Control is 24 VDC (20.4 to 28.8 V range), and the unit includes 4 digital inputs and 2 digital outputs for integration with a PLC or safety relay. The main circuit connects via a HAN Q4/2 plug (ISO 23570), so field wiring is a connector swap rather than opening the enclosure.
Trip Class Flexibility and Mounting
The starter offers selectable trip classes 5, 10, 15, and 20. Class 5 gives the fastest overload protection for short thermal time-constant motors; class 20 allows longer starting currents for high-inertia loads. Set it to match the motor's acceleration profile — wrong class means nuisance trips or inadequate protection. Mounting is screw-fixing, not DIN rail. The unit can be installed vertically, horizontally, or flat, though horizontal is recommended for optimal heat dissipation. Dimensions are 294 mm wide, 215 mm tall, and 148 mm deep — account for the width when laying out a multi-starter group. Vibration resistance is 7 mm / 2g, shock resistance 12g / 11 ms — rated for machine-mounted duty, not just panel installation.
