What it is and what it does
The 3RK1395-6LS71-3AD5-Z E09 is a Siemens SIRIUS M200D Technology Module configured as a reversing motor starter. It handles electronic switching under AC-3 duty up to 5.5 kW at 400 V, with an adjustable current range of 1.5 A to 12.00 A. The integrated electronic overload protection works with THERMOCLICK or PTC thermistor inputs, and a brake contact rated for 180 V DC is built in for holding brakes on vertical-axis motors. This module includes 4 digital inputs and 2 digital outputs, plus Han Q4/2 and Han Q8/0 hybrid connectors for motor and brake wiring. It supports manual on-site operation and a key-operated switch (CES E09) for local lockout. Communication is handled through a separate 3RK1305* communication module, which lets this starter sit on PROFIBUS or PROFINET networks.
Lifecycle and sourcing reality
This part carries NRND status. Siemens continues to support existing installations, but new designs should use the current SIRIUS portfolio. We source to order against an RFQ.
What the ratings mean for fit
The AC-3 rating of 5.5 kW at 400 V is the key number for motor switching — it tells you this starter can handle squirrel-cage motors up to that power, including the inrush during starting. The 1.5–12 A adjustable overload range covers a wide band of motor FLA values, so you can dial it in to match the motor nameplate without swapping heater packs. The electronic overload also means you get phase-loss sensitivity and a wider ambient temperature compensation range than a bimetal relay. The 180 V DC brake contact is worth noting: many reversing starters for vertical conveyors or hoists need a brake that releases when the motor energizes. This module handles that internally, saving an external contactor or relay. The 4 DI / 2 DO count is enough for basic feedback and control — start/stop, fault reset, and a couple of status signals back to the PLC.
Integration notes
This module uses the Han Q hybrid connector system — Han Q4/2 for the motor power and brake, Han Q8/0 for the I/O and communication bus. That means you need the matching Han Q hoods and inserts for your cable assembly; standard M12 or M23 connectors won't fit without an adapter. The communication module (3RK1305*) plugs onto the side and determines whether you talk PROFIBUS or PROFINET, so order that separately if you do not already have it. Physical dimensions are 377 x 287 x 221 mm — that is a substantial module, roughly the size of a small distribution block. Plan for DIN-rail space accordingly, and leave clearance for the Han connector hoods and cable bend radius. The packaging quantity is 1 piece, so each order code gets you one complete module.
