The 2.5 mm² conductor cross-section is sized for voltage drop over the 10–15 m run at full load. For a 24 V DC system, that matters: at 15 m and 16 A, the drop across 2.5 mm² copper is roughly 3.2 V one-way, so the far-end device still sees above 20 V.
