PROFIBUS DP gateway for the 3RK3 safety system
The Siemens 3RK3511-1BA10 is a SIRIUS DP-interface module that bridges the modular safety system 3RK3 to a PROFIBUS DP network at up to 12 Mbps over RS-485. It is the communication gateway for parameterizing the safety logic via Safety ES software — no separate connection cable needed. The module snaps onto a DIN rail in a vertical position and occupies 45 mm of panel width, with a 111 mm height and 124 mm depth. Power is 24 V DC, and the inrush current hits 70 A for 1 ms at startup — brief but enough to trip a marginal supply if you don't account for it. The IP20 enclosure means it lives inside a cabinet, not on the machine frame. Shock rated to 15g / 11 ms and vibration tested per IEC 60068-2-6 (0.75 mm at 5–500 Hz), so it holds up on a panel door or subplate near rotating equipment.
Manufacturer status is NRND (Not Recommended for New Designs). Siemens supports existing installations. For new projects, use the current-generation gateway. The module is RoHS-compliant per the substance prohibition date of 05/01/2012. It carries a reference code per IEC 81346-2 (K) and is designed for pollution degree 2 environments — typical for clean, dry control cabinets.
Wiring and integration notes
Screw terminals accept solid conductors up to 1x 4 mm² or 2x 2.5 mm², and finely stranded with ferrule up to 1x 2.5 mm² or 2x 1.5 mm². AWG equivalents for auxiliary contacts are 2x 20–14. Installation altitude is limited to 2,000 m above sea level without derating. Operating humidity range is 10–95% relative. The burst immunity per IEC 61000-4-4 is 2 kV on power ports, which is standard for industrial control panels.
