It functions as an input coupler with an integrated relay: the 24 V AC/DC coil drives one change-over contact rated for 6 A thermal current. The 6.2 mm width is the main space-saving feature — it packs a relay and isolation into a slice narrower than most terminal blocks, so it fits densely on a DIN rail inside a control panel. The hard gold-plated contacts suit low-level switching (e.g., PLC inputs, signal-level loads) where standard silver contacts might oxidize and fail to close reliably.
