What this contactor is and what it does
The Siemens 3RT1015-1AN21 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the size S00 frame, designed for switching motor loads and resistive loads in control panels. It snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 50022 and uses screw-type terminals for both main and auxiliary circuits. The 24 VDC coil draws a rated current of 10 A at 24 V, with a dropout threshold below 18 V — typical for this class. The contactor is rated for AC-2 and AC-4 duty at 400 V, delivering 3 kW and 6.5 A respectively, so it handles moderate motor switching with occasional inrush. Mechanical life is rated at 30 million cycles, and the operating temperature range spans -25 to +60 °C, which covers most indoor panel environments without derating.
Mounting and integration details
Mounts via screw or snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail. The 45 mm width and 57.5 mm height fit standard S00 footprint — side-by-side mounting is permitted, so multiple contactors pack tightly in a row. Screw terminals accept solid or stranded wire: 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), or max 2x (0.75 to 4 mm²). For AWG, that's 2x (20 to 16), 2x (18 to 14), or 1x 12. Pollution degree 3 rating means it's suited for industrial environments with conductive dust or occasional condensation — no additional conformal coating required inside a standard IP54 panel. Depth is 72 mm.
Coordination and protection
For type 1 coordination (no damage to the contactor after a short circuit, but may need replacement), the required fuse is gL/gG 35 A. For type 2 coordination (contactor remains operational after a fault), use gL/gG 20 A. These ratings let the panel designer size upstream protection without guesswork. IP20 on the front and terminals means finger-safe against accidental contact, but not sealed against dust ingress — mount inside an enclosure for anything beyond clean dry locations.
Lifecycle and sourcing posture
The SIRIUS series is widely specified across European and North American panels, so documentation including RoHS compliance (substance prohibition date 01.07.2006) and IEC 81346-2 reference code Q is available with the shipment.
