What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RT1015-2AP02-ZW98 is a SIRIUS power contactor in frame size S00. It switches motor loads up to 3 kW in AC-2 duty at 400 V — that's the rating that governs real use for slip-ring motors or moderate-duty starting, not the higher AC-12 resistive figure. Termination is via spring-loaded terminals for the main current circuit, accepting 2x (0.25... 2.5 mm²) solid or stranded wire. Mounts by screw or snap-on onto 35 mm standard mounting rail per DIN EN 50022. Rated operational temperature range during operation is -25 to +60 °C, with a degree of pollution of 3 — suitable for industrial control panels where conductive pollution may be present. Front face carries IP20 protection.
Mounting and integration
The 45 mm wide body clips onto a 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 50022; screw-mount is also supported. Side-by-side mounting is permitted without derating, per the specification. Clearance to grounded metal at the side is 6 mm. For Type 2 coordination (no damage), use a gL/gG fuse rated at 20 A. For Type 1 coordination (the contactor may need replacement after fault), a 35 A gL/gG fuse is allowed.
Key ratings and what they mean
The AC-2 rating of 3 kW at 400 V is the motor-switching figure that matters for slip-ring motor applications. AC-4 at 400 V is rated at 6.5 A — for plugging or inching duty. The AC-12 maximum operating current is 10 A, covering resistive loads. Auxiliary contact ratings span 24 V (10 A) down to 220 V (0.3 A) and 230 V (6 A), covering a wide range of control voltages. The contactor is rated for both 50 Hz and 60 Hz mains. Mechanical endurance is typical at 30 million operating cycles — a figure that reflects the contactor's design life under normal switching conditions, not the electrical endurance under load.
