Integrator's note on the 3RT1015-2BB41-ZW96
The Siemens 3RT1015-2BB41-ZW96 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the S00 frame size, meaning it occupies a 45 mm width on the DIN rail and fits the standard 35 mm mounting rail per DIN EN 50022. The 24 VDC coil draws 3.3 W during both closing and holding, so the control transformer or PLC output driving it must be rated for that continuous draw — no inrush spike to worry about, but the steady-state load is constant. Main circuit connections use spring-loaded terminals accepting 2x (0.25... 2.5 mm²) solid or stranded wire, or 2x (24... 14) AWG. That's a straightforward termination for panel wiring — no screw torque to verify, just strip to the correct length and push in. The IP20 rating on the front and terminals means it's protected against finger contact but not moisture; keep it inside a rated enclosure. For motor switching, the contactor is rated 3.5 kW at 400 V AC-3 (squirrel-cage motors, starting and disconnecting under load). The AC-4 rating at 400 V is 6.5 A — that's the inching or plugging duty cycle, lower than the AC-3 figure, so if the application involves frequent reversing or jogging, size on the AC-4 number. The AC-12 maximum operating current is 10 A for resistive loads.
Coordination and protection
Type 1 coordination (no damage to the contactor but may need contact replacement after a fault) requires a gL/gG fuse rated 35 A. Type 2 coordination (contactor remains operational after a fault) requires a 20 A gL/gG fuse. These are the manufacturer's specified values — don't substitute without verifying the let-through energy of the protective device. The contactor is rated for pollution degree 3, which is typical for industrial control panels where conductive pollution or dry non-conductive pollution that becomes conductive due to condensation may occur. Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C during operation, with a maximum altitude of 2 000 m without derating.
Mechanical endurance and dimensions
Mechanical endurance is rated at 30 million operating cycles typical. The contactor measures 45 mm wide, 60 mm tall, and 73 mm deep. Side-by-side mounting is permitted without derating, with a 6 mm clearance required at the side for heat dissipation. Screw and snap-on mounting onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 50022 is standard.
