SIRIUS power contactor, Size S00
The Siemens 3RT1016-1AF02 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the compact Size S00 frame, designed for switching motor loads in control panels. It mounts on a 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 50022 via screw and snap-on fastening, and the screw-type terminals accept up to 4 mm² stranded or solid conductors. The front and terminal area are rated IP20, suitable for enclosed panel environments. Rated for motor duty: 4.5 kW at 500 V and 5.5 kW at 690 V, with an AC-4 switching current of 8.5 A at 400 V — that's the reversing or inching duty cycle, where the contactor makes and breaks full motor current. For AC-2 at 400 V the rating is 4 kW. The 24 V DC coil draws 10 A rated current; the coil holds at 24 V nominal and drops out below 18 V. Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C, pollution degree 3 (conductive pollution typical in industrial panels). Side-by-side mounting is allowed without derating, which simplifies panel layout when multiple contactors share a rail.
Coordination and protection
For Type 2 coordination (no damage to the contactor after a short circuit) the required upstream fuse is gL/gG 20 A. For Type 1 coordination (contactor may need replacement after a fault) use a 35 A gL/gG fuse. This lets the panel designer match the protection level to the application's uptime requirements.
