What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RT1016-1AG61 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the compact Size S00 frame, built for switching motor loads in control panels. It's rated for AC-2 and AC-4 duty at 400 V — 4 kW and 8.5 A respectively — so it handles reversing, plugging, and inching applications where the contactor sees high electrical wear. The coil is 24 VDC, pulling 10 A at rated voltage, and the contactor snaps onto a standard 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 50022.
What the ratings mean for fit
The AC-4 rating of 8.5 A at 400 V is the one that matters for motor duty — that's the current the contactor can break reliably when switching a motor off at full load. AC-2 (4 kW at 400 V) covers slip-ring motors. The 24 VDC coil draws 10 A at pickup, but the holding current is much lower; the datasheet shows a typical mechanical life of 30 million operations, so this contactor is built for high-cycle lines like conveyors or pump stations.
Panel integration notes
The contactor measures 45 mm wide by 57.5 mm tall by 72 mm deep — a tight footprint that leaves room for auxiliary contact blocks or overload relays on the same DIN rail. Side-by-side mounting is allowed, with a 6 mm clearance to adjacent devices for heat dissipation. The screw terminals accept 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²) or 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²) solid/stranded, or up to 2x 4 mm². Finger-safe IP20 on the front and terminals means it's safe for open-panel use in a cabinet with a door interlock.
