What it is and what it does
The Siemens SIRIUS 3RT1016-1AK62 is a size S00 power contactor, rated for switching motor loads up to 5.5 kW at 690 V and 4.5 kW at 500 V. At 24 V it carries 10 A, and at 230 V it carries 6 A. It is designed for screw and snap-on mounting onto 35 mm standard mounting rail per DIN EN 50022, making it a direct fit for standard control panels.
Key ratings and what they mean for fit
The AC-4 rating at 400 V is 8.5 A — this is the switching current for reversing or inching duty, where the contactor makes and breaks the motor current under load. For standard AC-3 motor starting, the rated power at 400 V is 4 kW. The mechanical life is 30 million operations, so it holds up in high-cycle applications like conveyor or pump control. The contactor is rated for pollution degree 3, meaning it tolerates conductive dust and humidity typical of industrial enclosures. Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C, so it can sit in a warm panel near a drive or transformer without derating. Wire termination uses screw-type terminals for both main and auxiliary circuits, accepting solid or stranded conductors from 0.5 to 4 mm² (AWG 20 to 12). The front and terminal areas carry IP20 protection — safe for finger contact inside a closed panel.
Panel integration and coordination
At 45 mm wide, 57.5 mm tall, and 72 mm deep, it occupies a compact footprint on the DIN rail. Side-by-side mounting is permitted, so multiple contactors can be ganged without spacing. For Type 2 coordination (no-weld protection), the required upstream fuse is 20 A gL/gG; for Type 1 coordination (allow weld), a 35 A gL/gG fuse is specified.
