What it is and where it fits
The Siemens SIRIUS 3RT1016-1AP01-1AA0 is a power contactor in the S00 frame size, designed for switching motor loads and resistive loads in control panels. It mounts via screw or snap-on onto a 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022, which is the standard rail profile across European and most global panel builds. The 45 mm width and 57.5 mm height keep it compact for dense layouts. Rated operational current at 24 V is 10 A (AC-12), and at 230 V it carries 6 A. For motor duty, the AC-2 rating at 400 V is 4 kW, and the AC-4 rating at 400 V is 8.5 A. The control supply coil accepts 0.8 to 1.1 times the rated voltage at both 50 Hz and 60 Hz, with a rated value of 230 V at 50 Hz and 230 V at 60 Hz. Pollution degree 3 rating suits industrial environments. Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C, and maximum operating altitude is 2,000 m.
Termination and wiring
Main current circuit uses screw-type terminals. The terminal accepts solid conductors: 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), and a maximum of 2x (0.75 to 4 mm²). For AWG, it accepts 2x (20 to 16), 2x (18 to 14), and 1x 12. The front and terminal protection rating is IP20, so it's protected against finger contact but not against moisture — keep it inside a panel. Side-by-side mounting is permitted, with a required spacing of 6 mm at the side. This allows dense packing on the DIN rail while maintaining thermal separation. The contactor has one instantaneous contact.
Coordination and protection
For type of coordination 1, the required fuse is gL/gG 35 A. For type of coordination 2, the required fuse is gL/gG 20 A. This distinction matters for selectivity studies: coordination 1 allows the contactor to be damaged after a short circuit (but no fire risk), while coordination 2 keeps the contactor operational after clearing the fault. The mechanical endurance is typical 30 million operations, which reflects the S00 frame's suitability for high-cycle applications.
